Ideas

Because, “there will always be more good ideas than there is capacity to execute,” (The 4 Disciplines of Execution), at ARC we work collaboratively across divisions to refine/revise/re-prioritize the Product Development plan to meet the needs of our customers.

We are experimenting with this forum as a space for ARC teammates to share ideas.

Dual Language Framework or Dual Language Framework Companion (50/50)

The problem I am trying to solve is acquiring more resource support for our dual language implementations who rely heavily on our PD...so if they do not have PD for Unit 4, for example,...they are left fending for themselves in how to make the English Unit 4 talk to the Spanish Unit 4 in order to promote biliteracy.

Dual language implementations share frustration in the lift and expertise needed to bridge the English and Spanish frameworks together since they are not written with a dual language lens. District leaders request support in ensuring teachers have an understanding of how to plan each unit to support the biliteracy endeavor.

We have amazing dual language literacy block suggestions. In addition, David, Mario, and Lisa R. have laid out amazing sample pacing guides for for grade level teams. These samples are only shared through PD and are not part of the frameworks themselves.

If we had a ARC Core dual language companion, it could consist of:

  • Sample pacing with guides for each unit that utilize the phases of that unit and a recommended end product (at least by language allocation)

  • The "how-to" and "what" of cross-linguistic connections with samples

  • The sample literacy blocks for dual language

  • Support with equitable conference schedules in a DL setting

  • A compilation of the ELL call outs for that unit

  • Student work samples

  • The rubrics, research/genre card, and academic language in BOTH languages for that unit (often teachers ask for the rubric in BOTH languages so they know the right terms to make the connection) They are not always comfortable in BOTH languages themselves
